YTD update

Layouts: 30

Cards: more than 50–probably closer to 75, but I’m not sure exactly.  I’m terrible at keeping track of these.

Altered items: 2 (haven’t done any this month)

summer :-)

I decided to pull out some beach pictures from last year and play with some of the stuff I got in the RAK on Kim Musgrove’s Blog.

I did this layout for the contest on  I’m not totally happy with how it turned out, but I LOVE the BG rub-on.  This is the first time I have used one and they work really well.

Experimenting with negative space and 8 1/2 x 11

Even more negative space.  This one is really bugging me.  I think I’m going to add a little doodling in a square in the background…

Okay, so I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot lately.  I bought The Look Book by Autumn Leaves to see if it would help.  It had lots of pretty pictures and some cool ideas, but I don’t think it’s really going to help me define my style.  The blog might be a little more helpful though–so I’m going to keep an eye on it.  Here’s a link.

I haven’t been able to play along yet, since these next few days are about cleaning the house rather than scrapbooking, but I do want to play with some of the challenges.  Especially the new one about using your home decor and how it reflects in your scrapping style.  Though I may have to do it backwards, since most of the house hasn’t been decorated yet.  🙂  (The living/dining room colors and decor definitely show why I love the Basic Grey Urban Couture collection so much though.  And the retro 50s bathroom with yellow and black tile walls shows how I also like stuff on the complete other end of the spectrum. I guess my house is reflecting my mixed up style too.  Hmmmm…. =-D)

One thing I do know about myself.  I LOVE the way negative space looks on a layout.  When I’m looking through a magazine or book I really find myself drawn to the layouts that really use negative space to showcase photos.  More cardstock, patterned paper in moderation.  Yet, when I scrap I CAN’T leave that negative space.  Okay, maybe a couple of times, but it’s really really hard for me.  As in almost a physical pain to put the layout down without embellishing it to death or covering everything with patterned papers.   I guess all that empty space just scares me.

So after I get the house cleaned up and do some work on the outside project I need to finish in the next couple weeks (way too many pictures to use negative space in this one), I’m going to really practice making layouts with negative space.  Doing just enough and then stopping.  Even though it’s hard.

I’m looking for a poster sized print of Rene Magritte’s “The Tempest.”  If anyone knows where I can buy one or even if they exist, please let me know.

The goodies I mentioned in an earlier post from the Pub Calls contest and Kim Musgrove’s RAK.

Ten Days

What are you going to do in the next ten days? This month has gone by WAAAAYYYYY too fast. With so much sickness in the house lately, I’ve gotten terribly behind on everything from scrapbooking to laundry to yard work. And everything else in between. And I don’t know how I’m ever going to get caught up. So I’m going to set some goals out here in the public of blogland and then I’m going to keep them!

In the next ten days I will:

-Do our taxes (done)

-Sit down with Matt and put together a budget plan for the rest of the year (done)

-Get caught up on ALL the laundry

-Go through all the clothes and stuff in our room and put it away, give it away, or throw it away (done)

-Rake the yard (has had to be postponed due to rain)

-Clear out the garden area and set up a time to have someone till (cleared out, still need to set up a time to till)

– Make scrapbooking flyers

-Put away the rest of the Christmas decor (almost done)

-Exercise at least 5 times!! (done)

– Deep clean the kitchen, dining room, living room, master bedroom, and bathrooms (done, though thanks to dd it all needs to be straighted up again)

If I get scrapbooking in there, great. If not, I’ll just have to live. I’ve just GOT to get caught up

Here are a couple pictures of one of the “Trading Pages” layouts from our local scrapping group. This is the one I did with someone else’s pictures. 🙂 It was quite a challenge to use this many photos. I generally like one or two per page.

Totally overslept today, so I’m not going to be making it to church. We’ll probably watch one of the local ones on TV instead. Matt had to work, so he’s gone already. Hoping to get off a little bit early tonight though.

Yesterday I spent about 3 1/2 hours straight doing dishes. Can you tell I’ve been sick? Thankfully, Matt had them all rinsed and stacked in the sink and all along the counter or it would have taken the whole day. I also washed and dried 4 or 5 loads of laundry. And there are still a couple more loads waiting to go in today.

A little cheer

I had another depressing visit to the doctor’s today. So that is not fun. And I’m feeling pretty bummed out and tired. Accompanied by a headache and a daughter who won’t go down for her nap–still!

I was hoping to make it to a crop tonight, but I just don’t think it’s gonna happen at this point.

One good thing: I got some new goodies today. The technique tuesday stamp set I won in the Pub Calls Birthday bash (it’s still going on–check it out here: ) and some yummy MME goodies from Kim Musgrove’s RAK ( Lots of great papers and some of the new Tres Jolie line. I’ll try to post pictures later if I feel up to getting out the camera.
